Iris Liveness Detection Competition (LivDet-Iris) -- The 2020 Edition
Launched in 2013, LivDet-Iris is an international competition series open to
academia and industry with the aim to assess and report advances in iris
Presentation Attack Detection (PAD). This paper presents results from the
fourth competition of the series: LivDet-Iris 2020. This year's competition
introduced several novel elements: (a) incorporated new types of attacks
(samples displayed on a screen, cadaver eyes and prosthetic eyes), (b)
initiated LivDet-Iris as an on-going effort, with a testing protocol available
now to everyone via the Biometrics Evaluation and Testing
(BEAT)(https://www.idiap.ch/software/beat/) open-source platform to facilitate
reproducibility and benchmarking of new algorithms continuously, and (c)
performance comparison of the submitted entries with three baseline methods
(offered by the University of Notre Dame and Michigan State University), and
three open-source iris PAD methods available in the public domain. The best
performing entry to the competition reported a weighted average APCER of
59.10\% and a BPCER of 0.46\% over all five attack types. This paper serves as
the latest evaluation of iris PAD on a large spectrum of presentation attack
instruments.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables, Accepted for presentation at

Review of the Fingerprint Liveness Detection (LivDet) Competition Series: From 2009 to 2021
Fingerprint authentication systems are highly vulnerable to fingerprint artificial reproductions, called fingerprint presentation attacks. Detecting presentation attacks is not trivial because attackers refine their replication techniques from year to year. The International Fingerprint liveness Detection Competition (LivDet), an open and well-acknowledged meeting point of academies and private companies that deal with the problem of presentation attack detection, has the goal to assess the performance of fingerprint presentation attack detection (FPAD) algorithms by using standard experimental protocols and data sets. Each LivDet edition, held biannually since 2009, is characterized by a different set of challenges to which the competitors must provide solutions The continuous increase of competitors and the noticeable decrease in error rates across competitions demonstrate a growing interest in the topic. This paper reviews the LivDet editions from 2009 to 2021 and points out their evolution over the years
LivDet 2015 fingerprint liveness detection competition 2015
A spoof or fake is a counterfeit biometric that is used in an attempt to circumvent a biometric sensor. Liveness detection distinguishes between live and fake biometric traits. Liveness detection is based on the principle that additional information can be garnered above and beyond the data procured by a standard authentication system, and this additional data can be used to determine if a biometric measure is authentic. The Fingerprint Liveness Detection Competition (LivDet) goal is to compare both software-based and hardware-based fingerprint liveness detection methodologies. The competition is open to all academic and industrial institutions. The number of competitors grows at every LivDet edition demonstrating a growing interest in the area. In this edition eleven institutions have registered with twelve submissions for the software-based part and one for the hardware-based part
Introduction: osteoarthritis is the most frequent rheumatic disease and is conceptualized as a chronic
and degenerative disease in which there is a decrease in joint cartilage that causes pain, stiffness,
deformity, disability and affect the perception of quality of life related to health from the patients.
Objective: to determine the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of osteoarthritis in patients
with osteoarthritis of the canton Colta.
Method: descriptive, cross-sectional study in 475 patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis belonging to
the canton Colta. A review of clinical histories was carried out and a questionnaire made exclusively for
research was applied.
Result: the average age was 45.51 years, with a predominance of female patients (70.95 %) and of
knees (39.37 %) and hands (33.47 %). High percentage of comorbidities (57.47 %) with
predominance of arterial hypertension (30.40 %) and obesity (20.88 %). Pain and deformities were
the most representative clinical manifestations with 91.79% and 42.36% respectively. Conclusions:
osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that not only occurs at advanced ages, but its onset may be at
much younger ages. As a disease, it is associated with a high number of comorbidities, including high
blood pressure, obesity and cigarette smoking. Pain and deformity are the clinical manifestations that
motivate the assistance of patients to medical consultation.
Introduction: hypothyroidism is a systemic, chronic disease characterized by decreased production of
thyroid hormones, in many cases the immune disorder is part of the etiopathogenic mechanism of the
disease. They are associated with other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, thus
generating a complex symptomatic courtship in which both conditions can coexist leading to significant
degrees of functional disability and decreased perception of quality of life related to health.
Objective: to describe the relationship between thyroid diseases and rheumatoid arthritis.
Method: descriptive study in 265 patients with rheumatoid arthritis according to the criteria of the
American College of Rheumatology to describe the relationship between this disease and disorders of
the thyroid gland. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to determine the relationship between
both conditions.
Results: average age of 58.39 years and of patients with hypothyroidism of 66.32 years.
Predominance of female patients (76.98 %) and with evolution time between 3 and 5 years. The
29.81% of the cases presented a diagnosis of confirmed hypothyroidism, with predominance in female
patients (86.08 %), age over 65 years (49.37 %) and time of evolution of rheumatoid arthritis greater
than five years (53.16 %).
Conclusions: there is a high percentage of patients with hypothyroidism and rheumatoid arthritis;
although both conditions share common immunological mechanisms, there is no direct relationship
between the two, and a causal relationship can´t be established between the two conditionsIntroducción: el hipotiroidismo es una enfermedad sistémica, crónica caracterizada por la disminución
Conclusiones: existe un elevado por ciento de pacientes con hipotiroidismo y artritis reumatoide;
afecciones
Relación entre enfermedades reumáticas y diabetes mellitus
Introduction: rheumatic diseases are considered as a group of conditions that occur mainly in people
over 40 years of age, although they can present at early ages of life. A series of factors that can
precipitate the appearance of these are described, within these are mentioned endocrine metabolic
diseases and mainly diabetes mellitus.
Objective: to describe the relationship between rheumatic diseases and diabetes mellitus.
Method: descriptive study in 827 patients with rheumatic diseases according to the criteria of the
American College of Rheumatology to describe the relationship between rheumatic diseases and diabetes
mellitus. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to determine the relationship between both conditions.
Results: average age of 53.28 years and of patients with diabetes of 63.57 years. Predominance of
female patients (80.17 %), of patients with osteoarthritis (50.55 %) and with evolution time between 3
and 5 years. The 30,96 % of the cases presented diabetes mellitus confirmed, with predominance of
incidence in patients with lupus (40,74 %), rheumatoid arthritis (40,55 %) and osteoarthritis (32.06 %).
In 66.36 % the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus prevented that of rheumatic disease.
Conclusions: there is a media positive correlation between the presence of diabetes mellitus and
rheumatic diseases, both incorporate immunological components as part of their etiopathogenic
mechanism, however, it is not clear what is the interaction level between them.

Introduction: systemic lupus erythematous is an autoimmune disease characterized by the presence
of autoantibodies, in adition to the inflammatory process are responsible for the disease’s clinical
manifestations. It can be associated with other conditions such as autoimmune thyroiditis, this
affection, sometimes, precedes the diagnosis of lupus.
Objective: to describe the relationship between autoimmune thyroiditis and systemic lupus
erythematous.
Method: it is a descriptive, correlational and retrospective study, carried out in the outpatient clinic of
the Andean hospital of Chimborazo in the period between January 2017 and July 2018. The universe
was constituted by the totality of patients (137) who attended the consultation and who presented a
diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematous. The sample was constituted by 97 patients who met the
inclusion and exclusion criteria defined for the investigation. Pearson correlation was used to establish
the relationship between autoimmune thyroiditis and systemic lupus erythematous.
